Toppling Claire

My silly gal toppled backwards last nite!

I berated myself for being such a lousy Mum!

Last nite, I put Claire sitting on her playmat with the gumball machine toy. She was playing while i m off to somewhere doing stuff.

She was happily playing and entertaining herself when afterwards, i heard a loud cry! My poor gal was lying on her back. Thank god for the mat, if not i can't imagine the knock to her head!

I carried her immediately and tried to pacify her. She was wailing loudly due to the knock, hunger and the need to sleep!

Fed up!

Simply so fed up at work!

Yesterday, i spent the whole of my afternoon doing up that stupid excel file only to be ordered to delete it away.

This morning, my dear boss told me that she has this idea of something fanastic... IE THE WORK SHE ORDERED ME TO DELETE IT AWAY YESTERDAY!

What the F**K!

And i still have to put up a fake face to say, "Ok, i get it done!"

What the F**K!!!!!!!!!

Wish List

1. New Job
2. A pair of 0.5 carat diamond studs (Adds up to 1 carat)
3. Piglet's eczema to go away completely
4. Travel to Sydney & London
5. To finish pay all my Credit card instalments plan (Hifi set, Tudor watch & Facial package.)

Almost all of them are achieveable except for point 3, Piglet's eczema to go away completely!

Musical Toys

I m trying to get these 2 musical toys for Claire.

A toy piano and a toy xylophone - both wooden. I dun want to get those tacky, electronic ones.

Why the insistence on wooden toy piano & xylophone?

Wooden toy piano - Mum bought me one when i was a child and it provided me with loads of entertainment aka irritating people with those tuneless music i created.

Xylophone - HK Aunt bought one for her grandchild and we used it to entertain Claire. She was keep occupied with it and thoroughly enjoying herselves when we taught her how to play it.

It seems that all these simple toys can't be found anymore. I m keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to get hold of them soon!

Can't figure out

I really can't figure out a lot of things.

Work
I can't figure out why my boss does stupid things and make stupid comments. There are many instances, the latest from my performance appraisal and some other moments.

Performance appraisal - "I realised your accuracy in work isn't as great as before. Sometimes, you didn't link the files properly. I won't document this down in the form."

Quoting my colleague's words, "Mabbe she expects you to say this, Boss thank you for not documenting this down but if you document it down, i will throw in my resignation letter immediately."

This is sprouting from her mouth after I told her that i might be late at work when ferrying Piglet to Bedok in the morning - "I think you should get a car."

Quoting Pirate King's words, "You should ask your boss how much pay increment will she give to you?"

Sheesh, my first thoughts. WTF!!!! Telling you that I might be late is a form of courtesy and do you think i really give a damn about the documentation in the performance appraisal?

Especially when my pay increment has no bearings on the performance appraisal! So how, i m really amazed by the kind of dumb things done or said by the boss. I m keeping my fingers crossed that I won't make such comments when i m in that position.

PS: The boss actually told Radio that she was upset by the high turnover of our department as she felt that she treated her staff well. I almost fainted when i heard that!

People
Another thing that I dun understand. I had some items of Piglet that I wanted to give away. Throwing them away is a big waste, thus i posted it on the forum for anyone who has use for the items.

Guess what, they can ask me 1001 questions about the items etc etc etc.... Hallo, the items are free! What do you expect?

Sheesh, i really can't figure out what the hell these people think!

Rice Cereals - A Big Hole in the pocket!

A forum Mummy introduced this Organic Rice Cereal from Down Under, I got my colleague in Sydney office to buy 5 packets for Claire to try.

Once the 5 packets are finished, feedback from her nanny is that she loves it absolutely. I realised what is so different about this rice cereal from the rest is that it has added Sunflower Lecithin to it and it is very fine as compared to the other brands.

Since, this is not available in Singapore. I have no choice but to ask my colleague to get it for me and ship to Singapore. Guess what, the rice cereals are out of stock and my kind colleague made multiple trips to Woolworths (our NTUC equivalent) to get it for me. The postage cost of the rice cereals totally killed me, its a whopping AUD$90.50!!! This is enough to buy another 45 packets of the rice cereals! I just went to the Post office to get the International Bank draft to pay my colleagues. After conversion and plus commission charges, the rice cereals plus postage costs me SGD$238. Its like $6.15 per packet!!!

Oh well, for the sake of my precious daughter, I should not sting on food! I was telling Pirate King that we better instill Claire the idea of being filial to us from young! Somehow, I can understand the efforts and sacrifices that my parents made for me. At least, I feel that giving her food that is beneficial to her health is not spoiling her.

Roly Poly

I got this Roly Poly for Claire. Mum was mentioning that i should get one for Claire as she is able to sit unsupported by herself.

The Roly Poly should be able to train her muscles and entertain her, giving Mum a bit of free time. Its difficult to FIND a Roly Poly even though you might have the financial power to buy it!

Roly Poly are toys that Mum bought for Sis & me. I can't remember what mine looks liked but Sis' one is Pink in colour and its much bigger than the one I bought for Claire. Oh, Sis' Roly Poly has to be handled with care too. I remember that it has a big dent after dropping it on the floor. Come to think of it, Roly Poly in those days ain't cheap either!

Claire seems to be entertained by it yesterday nite but keeping my fingers crossed that this toy will last her quite a while!

Nicknames!

Was just typing a post in the forum and i realised Claire has many nicknames!

Ang Tze See 洪子晰, that 's the official name on her birth certificate. Her dear Papa aka Pirate King decided not to list Claire in her birth cert so that she will always have the option to change her English name. Bad move coz those future ang moh colleagues of Claire might not be able to prounounce her name!

Before Claire was born, we called her Piglet or 猪猪. Once she s born, we called her by her Chinese name in Mandarin as her name sounds like the color, "Purple" in Cantonese.

Nevertheless, here is a list of nicknames we called her:

1. 臭猪猪 (My Mum)
2. 臭女儿 (Pirate King)
3. 傻妹妹 (My Mum)
4. 晰晰 (My HK Uncle)
5. 小板凳 (My Dad)
6. Ang Zhai See (My Mum, Sis)
7. Sweetie (Me)
8. Sweetie Pie (Me)

So, i guess i m the only one who gave Claire quite a decent nickname! Most of the nicknames came with a story.

The most classic one is Ang Zhai See, meaning "knowing the meaning of death". It so happened that Claire needs to be hospitalised for jaundice and the nurse misprounounced her name... And it got stuck forever.

My Dad called her 小板凳 as he likes to sing her this Mandarin song and Claire responds well to him.

As for me, I find that Sweetie or Sweetie Pie is definitely much better than darling or 宝贝. I got goose pimples whenever i hear people calling their children, 宝贝 especially my Sis-in-law calling her son that!

Performance Appraisal

Performance Appraisal aka PA is a time whereby most employees will seek to shine in order to see some benefits out of it. The major benefit is Pay Increment!

For my company, our pay increment is not affected by the PA. IMO, doing the PA is an utter waste of time!

I went for mine today, my conclusion is I just got to nod my head and agree to the tasks that my boss has further assigned to me. Based on what VL & CW told me about their PA, i think its better for me to nod my head.... If i dun nod my head, i will have to spend time pushing away the futher tasks that is going to be assigned to me... That is a LOSING BATTLE to fight!

Nevertheless, my boss is spot on my current attitude. I have absolutely no interest and put no effort in my work. Now, i just wanna send in my resignation letter and leave this company.

The "Neh Neh Neh" Gal

Claire has discovered a new word, "Neh"....

This word is used to describe a variety of wants and needs.

When she refused to eat her porridge, she will "neh neh neh" in her bumbo seat, followed by tears and attempts to get out by arching her back.

When she wants her milk, she will "neh neh neh".

When she is pissed off or unhappy, she will "neh neh neh".....

Basically, everything is "neh neh neh".... Just wondering what is her next word going to be?

Lost.....

I lost Claire's hat!

We bought this hat on Monday at Fox Baby. She only worn it once to see whether it fits her head and whether she looks good in it!

Thank god, this hat is only $9 and I think it might have slip off the stroller while we moved her up and down the escalator!

Sigh, gotta find another hat for her and I pray that I still can find the hat in my home!

Random Thoughts

This is the 1st week where we implemented the "Ferry the baby" scheme. It used to be Piglet and me staying at my parents' place during the week, going back to my place over the weekend. Now it is "ferry the baby" to and fro except for Wednesday. Wednesday is basketball day for Pirate King and I will just stay over at my parents' place.

So far, its tiring as we had not gotten used to it yet. Eventually, we will get used to it and as Piglet grows older, it will be easier for us too! The only problem now is entertaining Piglet on the train and ensuring that her presence is not felt in the train!

At work, there are no news on the new buyer of my company. The thought of leaving is getting stronger and stronger by the day. My ex colleague, WT referred me to his new co and I had sent in my CV, just to wait for the news. Nevertheless, i hope to find my ideal job soon.

For myself, I harbour the thought of owning a pair of 0.5 carats diamond studs. I told myself to save up $$$ for it. Pirate King felt that I m being greedy but i told him, all my diamonds will be given to Piglet or no 2 (if no 2 is a gal). Then, being the ever doting Father, he told me to work towards saving $$$ for the studs! That's Pirate King!

Pirate King's change

Guess Pirate King did change for a little better after numerous arguments etc etc

Yesterday was Mothers' Day, his sister had asked him earlier on whether will he be free for dinner etc. He said yes and originially, his sister wanted to push the job of organising the dinner venue etc to him.

Pirate King pushed it back to her and the usual Ang family practice is to leave everything to the last minute. As most of the restaurants are packed or reservations are full, it ended up having the dinner at the zi char place near to our place.

So, I told Pirate King to go there early and ordered the food first. Once, he has placed the order, i will bring Piglet there. Amazing, my in laws were early, they called Pirate King about their arrival. Pirate King told them to order the food first while we will go down once we get Piglet settled.

While getting Piglet prepared to go out, they called again and asked where we are. Pirate King told them we are walking and about to reach there. His sis told him that they will wait for us first before ordering food. Pirate King immediately listed out the menu for them.

I commented to Pirate King that I could resign from my job and be a fortune teller coz i predicted this action of my in laws. I m happy that Pirate King is mindful of my feelings and he also bothered to look after Piglet during our dinner.

Keeping my fingers crossed that both of us will get better with time!

Mothers' Day

Yesterday was the 1st Mothers' Day for me.

Had to celebrate with both sides of the family. Lunch was with my side while dinner was with Pirate King's side.

The best Mothers' Day gift that Piglet could give me is for her to grow totally out of her eczema.

Yesterday, Piglet gave me a Mothers' Day gift by letting me take an afternoon nap coz she was knocked out for 2 hours! Hehe!

Heat Rashes

Claire has heat rashes now. The moment she is exposed to some heat, her heat rashes will appear and she will start to be cranky.

I really dunno what to do except to keep her out of hot places and give her a shower as and when.

Last night, she was so happy when we gave her a shower after our trip to the supermarket.

This morning, her heat rashes came and Mum chided me for subjecting her to heat. She even told me not to move Claire back home. Sis came to my rescue by telling Mum that Claire will get used to it after a while. I know Mum loves Claire very much and she is very anxious about Claire.

Claire is really a blessed child and she is not a poor thing even though plagued by eczema and heat rashes. Poor thing is those babies that are abandoned by the parents or have nothing to eat!

Scratching.....

Claire's fave hobby is scratching.

It all stems from her eczema. Whenever her eczema flared up, she will scratch her knees, her face and her ears.

As she grows older, she has started to progress from scratching her knees, face, ears to her body, butt and now her hands!

Not only that, part of her sleeping ritual is scratching too! She will make noise (aka sing song) to tell us that she wants to sleep. Afterwards, she will scratch her bolster and the mattress, she gets a kick out of scratching due to the sound produced! I have to watch over her to ensure that she does not scratch herself.

But, she still managed to scratch her nose when i bring her to Bedok this morning!

Fat Mama + Gong Gong Baby

Took this picture at Tangs. They will having this roadshow for a new Philips product. The product is some lamp that created different colours and selling for S$259.

I din want to take the picture, since the MC (Vivien Tan) approached me. I just gamely obliged. Looking at the pictures, I could only say that I looked fat with a capital F and my cheeky gal looked very Gong.... If u observed the picture closely, Claire was actually scratching her left knee..... (That's her favourite hobby - Scratching her knees!)
Well, Claire does looked like a boy sans her pink jacket, pink underwear and pink socks! And, she doesn't resemble me at all in this picture!

Reflections - May

Things are okay on the home front. There are still a number of things I wanna do and have not gotten it done!

Work, I m still waiting for news and the sign to come. What Sis and Mum says is true about staying put at the current job and wait for the retrenchment benefits.... However, work is giving me a real headache and the itch to switch is there.... My only concern is not being there for Claire if I do a job switch!

Was just telling Pirate King yesterday that I wanna find a job that enabled me to work half day on Fridays.

Family, Sis has accepted the job offer from London and once everything is settled, she will be there in August. For Fat Bond, he has accepted the application for the military school in Canberra, Australia. Also, once SAF has settled everything, he will be there in July. Dad is forced into early retirement, his employer has given him 3.5 months notice (in pay) and his last day will be on 15th May 08.

Mum has taken Dad's retirement well as its a matter of time that his employer asked him to leave. As for my 2 younger siblings, she is kinda unwilling to let them go even though she knew that it will do them good to have more exposure! Sis told me that at least, there is Piglet to keep Mum occupied. That is true, no matter how mischievous and cranky Piglet is, Mum loves her to the bits!

On the in laws side, things are still the same. I will still keep my distance, tell myself to be more tolerant and not to make things difficult for Pirate King. Yup, i will attempt to try.

As for myself, I told myself not to think too much in the future. Like having a 2nd child, housing etc etc..... As all these things have not materialised yet. No point in planning too far ahead!

Now, i just wanna sleep! :)

Super Claire again!

Claire did it again, not once but twice!

In my previous post about her landing on my mattress, she did it twice in 2 days!

Yesterday, my Sis fed her in the morning so that I could catch some winks. After that, Sis patted her to sleep, thinking that Claire fell asleep. Sis left the room, after a while, Claire landed on the mattress besides me! She woke me up and was making noise coz she wanted to roll over!

This morning, I woke up and Claire as usual was wide awake. She din make any noise as Moi was sleeping or it was not the time to wake Moi yet. I observed her carefully, she actually attempted to land on my mattress once I removed the pillow that blocked her move.

This notti gal of mine! I guess the decision to move her back to Redhill was right as she will be sleeping on the floor. There is no way, she will be Super Claire unless I put her on the bed!

Books for Claire

After reading a fellow blogger Mum's post on books' recommendation, I went to Amazon.com and searched for this author, Sandra Boynton.

Her books are well illustrated and with fun content that are suitable for babies till pre-schoolers. In a whim, I bought about 9-10 board books from Amazon.com and I got them last week.

I asked Pirate King to read one of the books, "Fuzzy, Fuzzy, Fuzzy" to Claire and asked him about her reaction. As usual, he can't give me much description, thus this morning, i managed to show Claire the book. Her reaction is that of a happy one!

I guess Pirate King din really read to her properly....

Claire is back!

After 2 weeks of missing her, Claire is back in Singapore from Hong Kong!

When we picked her up from the airport, she was fast asleep. Mum told me that she fell asleep the moment, they cleared the Singapore immigration! Claire cried when I tried to carry her at Mum's place. My heart was in pain when she refused to let me carry her and only allowed Mum & Sis to carry her!

Later on, Pirate King & I cleaned her up to prepare for bed and I sung her the "Sweetie Pie" song(lyrics adapted and sung to the tune of Barney's "I love you" song). The moment she heard this song, she "ah" me as if to tell me that, "Why did you leave me all alone in HK with Popo?" Afterwards, she smiled at me and remembered me! My Mum told me that it takes a while for her to adapt and plus, no kids will forget who her parents are!

New Toy!

Yup, i bought another toy for Claire! Guess, i really spoilt her rotten! Most of her toys are from Fisher Price and they are not cheap!

This is the toy that I bought for her. It is a gumball machine and i find it very fun but I dunno about Claire. Keeping my fingers crossed that she will play with it!
